The original concept behind the outlet mall was that such malls would sell overstocked goods for manufacturers. These malls were intentionally placed on cheap real estate near a freeway between major urban areas.
The first outlet malls has huge amounts of budget space that emphasized low price over style.
The Casa Grande Outlet Mall was built by Tanger Outlet Malls on the South Side of Casa Grande with the idea that the outlet mall would be a destination for both Phoenix and Tucson.
There are now outlet malls in Phoenix and Tucson and you can buy overstocked good online.
The outlet mall is now a huge area with low quality shopping space that does not have organic traffic. The video below is by a group doing "retail archeology."
Part Two
A company called AZ sourcing hopes to transform the abandoned outlet mall into a sourcing showcase facility for manufacturers to be called Phoenix Mart. There is some negative press about the endeavor.
